Empowering young people in Manchester to lead and influence change

We co-design programmes with young people facing disadvantage across Manchester. They gain skills, confidence, and a platform to shape decisions in schools, services, and the city.

Evolution is the key to success

Evolution for the young

Manchester Youth Empowerment Club (MYEC) aims to address the social issues affecting the teenagers from black ethnic minority in Manchester, especially from African migrants.

Our mission is to tackle the pressing social issue of addiction, with a specific focus on combating the rising trends of social media and vaping addiction among our youth. We recognize that these modern challenges can significantly impact the well-being of young individuals, and our aim is to foster a supportive environment where they can thrive.

At MYEC, we are committed to empowering our youth by providing them with the tools and support necessary to navigate and overcome the complexities of these addictions. Our approach is holistic and tailored, understanding that each young person’s journey is unique. We strive to cultivate a safe and nurturing space where teenagers can develop healthier habits, build resilience, and enhance their overall well-being.

Through our dedicated programs and the unwavering support of our community, we are making a tangible difference in the lives of young people. We are not just addressing the symptoms of addiction; we are investing in the future of our youth, guiding them towards a path of self-improvement and long-term empowerment.

    OUR SERVICES

    Sports & Wellbeing

Sport is a universal language. Whether you’re into football, basketball, table tennis or dance, our sessions are open to all abilities and backgrounds. We focus on teamwork, respect and fun, not just winning. Many participants tell us that an hour of sport lifts their mood for the rest of the day. We also use sport to talk about wellbeing, healthy lifestyles and fair play. You can help design the tournaments and even coach games if you want to. It’s like a weekly huddle where everyone leaves smiling and sweaty.

    Drama Classes

Drama is more than acting; it’s a way to process and communicate emotions when words alone aren’t enough. In our drama classes you’ll work with artists to create scenes that reflect your experiences and ideas. You might write and perform a piece about adjusting to life in Manchester or devise a play about friendship across cultures. It’s a safe space to explore, play, laugh and cry. Along the way you’ll learn improvisation, voice work and teamwork, and you might end up performing on a local stage. It’s like therapy you can clap for at the end.

    Mentorship Programmes

A good mentor can make all the difference. Our mentorship programmes connect you with positive role models – older young people, professionals and community leaders – who listen without judgement. Together you’ll set realistic goals, talk through tough choices and celebrate your wins. Mentors receive training in active listening, safeguarding and youth mental health, and they’re matched with mentees based on shared interests or aspirations. Think of them as co‑pilots who help you navigate tricky skies while you remain in control of the journey.

    Music & Creative Arts

Music and other creative arts offer a powerful outlet for expression. We provide instruments and tutors for guitar, drums, piano and more, and we encourage you to explore rhythms and melodies from your own cultures alongside new genres. You might write lyrics about your journey to Manchester, learn to record your own tracks, or perform with friends at community events. Creativity isn’t just a hobby here; it’s a way to tell your story and connect with others. As one participant put it, “It’s like breathing out all the things I can’t say.”

    Educational Support

When school has been disrupted by moving country, language barriers or exclusion, it’s easy to feel lost. Our educational support programme is designed to fill those gaps. We offer one‑to‑one and small‑group tutoring, English and maths catch‑up sessions, digital literacy training and homework clubs. Our tutors work at your pace and help you set learning goals that make sense for you. We also liaise with schools and colleges to make sure you’re getting the support you need. The aim isn’t just to boost grades – it’s to rebuild confidence and curiosity.

    Seminars & Workshops

At MYEC we know that knowledge is power, especially when you’re finding your feet in a new environment. Our seminars and workshops aren’t lectures – they’re conversations shaped by you. Topics range from mental health and digital citizenship to rights, social media and how to stand up to peer pressure. We also talk about navigating immigration systems and building resilience. You help choose what matters most, and sometimes you even lead the sessions yourself. Think of it as a tool kit you build with your peers; each session adds a new tool for tackling life’s challenges.

    Let us remember:

“Dare to dream, strive to grow, and create a brighter tomorrow.
The journey to empowerment starts here.
